cupcake fail!

So I really try to be honest on my blog here....
and it would not be fair to only post crafty things that go well here.
And so here goes....

today's crafty item didn't go that well.
There's a family dinner for my niece's birthday.  She's 20.  I offered to make cupcakes.
I love cupcakes!  I generally do cupcakes well!
I wanted to make them special and personal!
{can't you just hear the sad music beginning?}
Her favorite colors are green and purple.....

and so I ....
I bought fancy purple flower cupcake liners.
I made up 2 cake mixes:  a chocolate one and a white cake.
{Here's where my judgment started to fail me}
I dyed the white cake green.

and I layered them.
and then added the purple icing
{why purple icing??}
and sprinkles...
{I thought they'd help!}

It's a fail.
They look like I'm taking them to a 3-year-old's monster-themed party!
{so embarrassed}

And yet I'm taking them anyway because (a) they taste good, and (b) I don't have time to remake them.

We all know the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Apparently so is the road to unattractive cupcakes.

  1. Hey, taste is 90% ..... and I am sure they all will love them.

  2. if it's any consolation, I was at a function last night where there were cupcakes. They were beautiful....white cake (my fav) and bright pink frosting, all frothy and thick. Guess what? AWFUL. Tasted like sawdust. I would take an ugly, monster, green and purple cupcake any day. Be happy they taste good and have a fun night! At the very least, you have a fun story/blog post, right?

  3. I've never had a "bad" cupcake... I'm sure they will be just fine.

  4. LOL! What a great memory for her! "Remember my 20th when Aunt Wendy made the funky cupcakes?! (insert giggle here) They looked AWFUL but they were so GOOOOOD! Aunt Wendy is still my favorite aunt!"

  5. Thank you so much for sharing! You made me giggle!

  6. I don't know....they have a certain....charm?

  7. they are cute!! i'd love them at my birthday party!!
