Well, I've made some progress on my string quilt. It's been so much fun! I've really enjoyed working on it. Here's a little closer shot.
And I'm fascinated by the back. It's nearly as neat as the front!
Each block is 10" square, and it's 7 blocks by 10 blocks. And now I'm fretting about how to quilt it and how to put on borders.
You see, because of the muslin used in the construction, the blocks are thick. And I was planning on putting on 2 borders, but I am concerned that they may not hang correctly or may feel flimsy? Suggestions? Help please!
Just beautiful - how about skipping the batting and just backing it with flannel?
ReplyDeleteI have no clue about construction of it all, but I absolutely love the back!! Okay, I love the front too. What is it about all those colors that makes me stop and stare??
ReplyDeleteLooks great Wendy. I love all the oclor and movement.
ReplyDeleteI just have a couple of thoughts. As long as your quilt is squared-up overall, it should hang properly. If any of your pieced squares along the outer edges have biased edges you may want to consider edge stitching. Secondly, are you going to machine quilt your quilt, or are you thinking of tying it?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful quilt, by the way!
ReplyDeleteRho, planning on machine quilting it... but it's large and I'm slightly intimidated! I ended up just putting on one border on but backing it with the leftover muslin. Seemed to work ok, but of course it's not quilted up yet! Right now it measures about 80" by 100", so piecing the backing is the next challenge.
ReplyDeleteI made a big quilt like this and used the same muslin under the borders as for the blocks. That way the borders were not too light. Choosing a thick batting and flannel backing was a very "wintery" choice for me. Too thick for my machine, so I tied it. - Good luck with finishing your quilt!
