My super-fancy sewing kit

My older daughter takes ballet.
And during her class, I sit downstairs and hand-sew binding on whatever quilt I'm currently working on.
And I get to talk to a sweet friend, whose daughter is also in ballet class.
While she crochets.
And yes, people stare at us.
But I don't care.
It's lovely.

But I decided that I needed a good way to keep my hand-sewing things together.
Not only do they go to ballet with me, I've started taking my things when I know I'm going to have to wait.
SO.....

I made this.  The fabric was a gift from my sister in law.  Don't you love it?

And when you open it, it looks like this.
I love the thread-keeper.

It has a handy little built-in pincushion.

And a nifty pocket for my scissors and seam ripper and thimble.

I've really enjoyed this--it's come in handy for me.  I was thinking about writing a tutorial.
Is there any interest on that one?

  1. Yes, please!! That is just awesome. I don't have any kids, so no classes to wait on, but I always lose all my little sewing items and a traditional sewing basket is too bulky for me to carry around the house. This would be perfect. Please do consider a tutorial. :)

  9. I'd love a tutorial - all three of mine take ballet classes so I'm at the studio waiting 4 hours every week!

  11. So I'm waaaay behind on my Google Reader, and catching up with all your blog posts. Glad to see that the fabric found a fun project! I bought some of this for myself too, and still need to use it for something. The sewing kit is adorable. And functional. Bonus!
